What is this non connected spring thing hanging from rear wheel area? Indentify plea

I noticed under my car on the passenger side inner part of the wheel there in a cord with a spring on the end that's not connected. On the other side it is connected... It looks like it connects to the rear hub. I am attaching a picture... Please help me!!

Hey, Bomber495, I have a `99 with drum brakes, my parking brake cable looks like that, but goes inside the drum backing plate. Looks like you've got disc brake there. Might help if you post what model and year of Ford you've got...
