My friend drives a 2004 Cadillac CTS and he asked me if he could put a regular 9006 bulb conversion kit in his car. We know that his bulb size is 9006XS for his low beams. I am not sure what that means. Does it stand for Extra Small?

So can a 9006XS bulb be replaced with a regular 9006 bulb or conversion kit?

I know this isn't a Tahoe question but I knew you guys would know the answer. Thanks Guys.

I found a conversion kit and it says the bulb type is 9006, but it does not have an L-shaped connector. It is a straight connector. Does that mean it will work in the Cadillac? Is the shape of the connector the only difference between 9006 and 9006XS bulbs?

The L shape will fit still, even if it asks for a straight plug. It may be snug but you should be able to install an angled 9006 bulb even if the original was a straight design. Depending on the application, you may need to do some minor trimming, but unlikely. 9005/9006 bulbs are basically standard styles in all domestic cars and trucks. The letters behing the numbers may designate angled or straight design, but they will fit any vehicle. If your caddy came with 9006/9005 style bulbs, then any 900X bulb will fit no matter if its angled or not.

ok thanks. i was just wondering because I got this message in my inbox and it isn't posted on here for some reason:

NO NO NO!!!!!

XS has a different base, since the CTS on a cadillac has a projector it uses a different 9006. the XS is meant for a projector, even though they make projectors that take regular 9006 , the cadillacs CTS uses 9006XS, if you get 9006 regular they will not fit, or damage the headlight.

So that is why I was wondering if the "different base" he referred to was the angle part or if a 9006 bulb and a 9006XS bulb are different in some way other than the angles... thanks for the responses

a good way to find out, Pull the bulb out and take a couple pics of it, the bulb, the base, and the electrical jacks.

Then I can completly answer your question. :D

I know for a fact that a regular halagon 9006 bulb and 9006XS bulb are not compatible, But HIDs are different.

Ok.. first off, the XS doesn't mean its for a projector. The XS is also on the standard halogen bulb. So standard bulbs wether they have angled or straight plugs will work, but they wont work if they are HID style of bulbs. Get it? Now if you have HID's then you will want the 9006XS that is meant for the HID style. So first check the bulb to see wether its an HID or a standard halogen.

I must have misread your post then. standard halogen bulbs are interchangable, to make that clear. HID bulbs/kits are a different story

You have it backwards, 9006 XS and 9006, while they are the same number are a different series of bulbs, 9006 is 9006 in HID as an HID bulb is the same base and size bulb, no matter what series of bulb you order, just different base, so 9006 is 9006 in HID, but 9006XS and 9006 ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE in halagen form.

The XS bulb in halogen form is basically a straight back design. BUT in my application my high beam says that I need a straight back bulb like that of a XS form. though I have an elbow shaped bulb that is 9005 and it fits. 9006XS and 9006 bulbs are the same. the only difference is if it is angled or straight. and in my jeeps case I didn't need an XS bulb like the factory states for the high beam. Your own vehicles applications may vary so do some research before you go out and buy different bulbs.

XS= straight.. which was a stupid DC marketing ploy. idiots.
