Ok, so I have new bilsteins, re-did the brakes a year ago. the ball joints 'seem' ok when I jack the front end up and check for play with the wheels...

still have this weird rattling from the pass side, it isn't really metal on metal, sounds kinda muffled. sometimes it kinda shows up on the driver side. cv shafts aren't making any noise, the boots are still good. kinda happens at all speeds over bumps/rough roads, but it doesn't happen all the time over bumps. anything else I need to look at? The brakes don't squeak at all, either. its gotta be something.

oh 98 Tahoe 2 door. stock everything

How are you jacking up the front end and checking ball joints? You have to jack under the lower control arm close to the ball joint to unload the ball joints. Then grab at 12 and 6 and 3 and 9 to check for play. Also jack the tire off the ground about 1" to 1.5" and use a pry bar under the tire at 6 o'clock and pry up and down and check for ball joint play. Look at the play at the hub bearings and at the sway bar end links and frame mount bushings. Also, check the control arm bushings, upper and lower.

No problem. Let us know. From now on when you "check" anything just tell us what you did to check it and we can go from there. ;)

I installed new shocks and found a rattle, the way the front shocks install the bracket has to be torqued REALLY tight to squeeze the ends of the rubber of the shocks mount point, when I tightened the bolts it solved my noise issue

Try that, its easy and takes 5 minutes and a good wrench

worried the **** out of me, it was a massive relief when it turned out to just be a bolt needing a tightening
