I have noticed that when I turn, I hear a vibration (and feel it) coming from the steering column. I do not notice it when driving in a straight line. Also I can replicate the sound by pushing hard on the top of the steering wheel (shaking it) and the wheel moves slightly and makes the same sound.

I don't think this is normal (I don't remember it happening before). Any ideas?

It is in a 2001 Tahoe that is stock with 130,000 miles on it. Only fluids, plugs, brakes and tires have been replaced on it - nothing else (yet).

Thank you,

Michael

As an update - I checked the power steering fluid level and it was a little low (not much at all, but a little) so I added some additional fluid. It seems to have helped quite a bit. The rattle (shake) is still there, but not nearly as bad as it was....

I just added it this morning so it may take awhile to smooth out. if nothing else, I will schedule to have the power steering fluid replaced and see if that does any good. (air in the line maybe?)

Anyway - I will update more as I find out more.

i think i know the noise/feeling u r talking about. i fixed a couple or at least made them alot better by, loosening and retightening the u joint pinch bolts on the steering shaft and then also using some spray lube on the shaft where it passes through the bulk head (firewall)
hope this helps
