very rough idle/extreme shaking and slipping

hey everybody, new to these forums and thought I'd start off asking a question. just got my first tahoe, 99 4dr, a couple months ago and a friend of mine who happens to be a part time mechanics been helping me do some work on it. trucks been starting rough when it rains, so we cleaned out the dist cap (oxidized a little) and sealed it up with gasket sealant. used packets of boot protector on all the plugs/boots, thought everything was good. now it starts a little rough and whenever you give it gas it sounds AWFUL, slipping noises and quick back and forth rocking when accelerating from a full stop, he thought we may have put one of the boots back on partway but checked and they're all good..no idea what it could be. taking a look again today but thought I'd throw this out there in case anyone has any ideas

Replace the cap and rotor with AC DELCO units. Does it seem to be flooding?

How is hard to start? Will it start easier with a little starting fluid? What is fuel pressure?
