Hi, another new guy here. I have a 99 Tahoe 4x4 with towing package. What happens is if I am towing a medium weight camper or my 20'fiberglass boat it tows fine. When I go up a hill, where it is causing the engine to work harder and go into passing gear, the thing starts to vibrate, it gets worse until it gets to a point where the whole car is shaking so bad it feels dangerous and the car slows, loosing power. If I let off on the gas and let it slow a bit it often goes away. Or, if I punch it most times it goes away. If I climb the hills slowly, it won't get the shakes. It seems to happen only if I am trying to work it hard. It does not do this at all without towing something heavy. My light boat doesn't do it at all.
Problem is I can't tell if it is trans, engine, or torque converter. I have had a few distributor caps on it along with wires and plugs so that doesn't seem to have any effect, except with a new dist. cap it seemed to do it less, but then again it could be because I baby it more. Anyone know what it is? An ex-mechanic told me to try disconnecting the electric control to the torque converter but I have not tried it yet. Help?
UPDATE. It's been a few days with no responses. Can someone at least tell me where the electric plug for the torque converter is? Thanks.
