First of thanks guys! I'm new to this forum and any help would be appreciated!
I have a 1999 Tahoe with almost 300000 miles on it. The other day driving home on the interstate, the over drive slipped and the engine just revved at highway speed. It continued to do this, stayed stuck in 3rd gear for almost 15 miles. Service engine light started flashing, then stayed on solid all the way home. Of course when i got home the engine was hot. The trans fluid was a little low, so I added some. It smelled a little burnt, but I couldn't tell. I left it parked until I had time to look at it, of course the battery was dead. After I charged it, then service engine light had gone off. I used a code scanner, but it showed no codes in the history but this C0550 ECU Failure. I'm trying not to spend a fortune on the Tahoe and I'm trying to narrow it down to replacing a shift solenoid, or ECU. I'm kind of terminology illiterate when it comes to transmission. I've rebuilt engines, but never transmission. Like I said, if you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it! I'm trying to avoid a 1600 rebuild.thanks again!
