I was wondering the same thing. My 2008 Silverado K2500 with a Duramax engine & Allison transmission- even when towing my boat in the summertime, it'd rarely get above 165 deg. My 2008 Tahoe LTZ, on the other hand, is running around 170 degrees without the boat even hooked up. I was a bit worried when I first saw that. I guess this tranny just runs warmer...?

that and your duramax comes with a transmission cooler stock; the hoe's and yuk's do not. You have to check the box along with the trailer and towing package. ask me how i learned this...

My 07 Tahoe runs 200/210(summer/not towing) while my 07 Sierra runs 170/180 under the same conditions. Spoke to GM but they said it was normal. Both vehicles are 5.3, the Tahoe being flex-fuel. I think I have a problem but can't get any help.

Hm. Dunno about the Sierra, but having lived in LV for a number of years, I wouldn't worry about 210F on the tranny. If it reaches 220-230 during normal driving, then worry.

Unless you have an auxilary cooler, the cooler is running thru the radiator which is cooling an engine that's running at 200F, so it's not surprising that it runs around 200F.

Don't understand why the Sierra runs 30 degrees cooler. Isn't the 4 speed box the same on both vehicles?

I know it came with the heavy duty tow package and higher gearing (top speed 89 mph). I guess thats why it runs cooler then. Pity the Tahoe doesn't have it, when I'm towing the boat(5200 lbs) during summer I've seen 217 degrees just on a 10 mile trip.

Alright well that's some good info. Here's a question though. I looked in my glovebox to get the part codes for my specific Tahoe. It DID list "Z82" (HD Trailering package) but DID NOT list either the code for the hi-capacity air cleaner or the external transmission cooler. I did some research, and according to GM, the Z82 package includes both the external tranny cooler and the air cleaner. Even if that's true, it seems wierd that the codes wouldn't be listed. Does anyone have a pic they could post of the trans cooler so I can poke around my engine compartment and try to spot it?
