I have a 1997 2dr 4wd 4L60E that had tranny issues. Would not come outta 2nd gear and shift any further. First and second gear operated normally. I had the tranny rebuilt professionally. It needed new planatary gears as well as a complete rebuild kit. A brand new torque convertor and shift indicator board was added as well. Installed back into vehicle. After proper fluid fill, trans acted normal untill fluid got hot to operating temperature. Then the exact same thing occured. Will not get outta 2nd gear!! Is this another issue and how did the pros not diagnose the problem? Anybody out there experienced any thing like this? Maybe solenoids?

Perhaps you are loosing the 12v feed to the transmission when it gets hot? That will cause a no shift condition and stuck in a particular gear (not shure which one - limp home mode...)

Thanks for the tip Lester. Iwill check that out. This has to be an electronic issue. After a major rebuild like this, it should not be doing the same thing I had it rebuilt for.

Seems to me if you paid for a professional rebuild that the service should have come with some sort of warranty, take it back in and make them fix their mistake

Tahoe is back at tranny shop waiting to have pan pulled. they think it sounds like a bad shifter solenoid or a possible wore out valve body. will know tomorrow.

Update! Got the tahoe back. After another new valve body, new 3rd, 4th, and overdrive bands, and new solenoids the tranny still would not come outta 2nd. The one simple and least obvious thing that caused this issue was a broken check valve(location unknown). This was replaced and everything works very well. Problem solved. When a rebuild is in order, make sure they replace the check valve for peace of mind. Tranny shop said they have never had to replace one before. Hope this helps anybody else out there.

Glad the shop stood by their work, I highly suggest you leave them a review in the positive on yelp or whatever site they may be listed in for reviews

+review a definite, wonder if it was one of the steel ball check valves? How would that break? Oh well as long as it is functional again......
