I am looking at buying a 99 tahoe and I have a 20 foot boat that I lug to the lake occasionally, however the tahoe that I am looking at does not have a tow package. So my question is in these tahoes is there just one transmission that they put in all models or is there an upgraded model with a larger radiator and a different transmission? or did all of the tahoes have the same tranny in them?

I have looked for specs and I cant find anything on this subject. any help would be great. Thanks

Trans are the same. 96-99 models with the 5.7 Vortecs are going to have more power than the previous models. If you buy one w/o an aux trans cooler, I would definitely add that. Also, look into one with lower gears, like 3.73s. That will help relieve some stress from the driveline and trans, and help move the truck easier while towing.

it actually may have came w/ the tow package.. thats like a standard.. ;) - but someone may have taken it off - and the 4l60 E tranny would be listed in the glove box on the RPO codes as Probably M30, however could also be listed as M32, M33, or Mk2 - and then the 4l80e (the larger trans) would be listed as MN8 or mt1 - now most likely yours will have the M30 4l60e tranny - and on the rearends the RPO codes listed for them would be..
GQ1 -- AXLE REAR, STD RATIO
GT4 -- AXLE REAR, 3.73 RATIO
GT5 -- AXLE REAR, 4.10 RATIO
GU4 -- AXLE REAR, 3.08 RATIO
GU5 -- AXLE REAR, 3.23 RATIO
GU6 -- AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO
And if it has the Posi Unit in it it would be listed as:
G80 -- AXLE REAR, LIMITED SLIP (POSITRACTION)

Thats a heads-up of what to look for in a Used vehicle - just so you know exactly what your buying..

If the vehicle had the Tow Delete option that is RPO code 8C8
but as i said it probably did come with it
