Towing question.

We're looking onto a new Tahoe but I was a little concerned with the fact that towing is only rated at 6700#. It will be used for towing a camper weighing 6500# at the very most. Will it be able to handle it or should I stick with a '06 or older model where the towing capacity is 7700-7900#?

The one I looked at was a '07 LT2 with 3:73's and the owners manual said it was rated for 6700# and the "extended model", which I assumed was a Suburban, was rated for 7000#.

well, this may make it harder for you but i went with the 06 with 4.10 gears so i could tow my 5000 pound boat with a little more comfort, also didn't like gmc yukons front end, so 06 was it for me, i love the look of the gmt-900 tahoes but the chevy dealers here are real jack@ss's :nonod: :cuss:

It depends upon the axle and trailering package. For example, 6500 is the max for a straight up 2wd with 5.2 V8. If you get a 4wd with the HD trailer pkg and 3.73 axle it will handle 7200. Or opt for the 4wd, HD trailering, and 4.10 axle and it is 8200.

yea theres a ton of variables,

to get the most towing you need the following: tow packedge, 4.10, 4wd( but i thought this decreased it due to the added wait,but it helps pull a heavy load in 4lo or a boat up a slipery ramp), and the 6.0L, 5.3 is very good at towing but for the most i would go witht the 6.0, and if you decide to go 06 or older try to find an 8.1 liter, that is the king of towing 417 ft lb of torque. :lol: :thumbsup:

I agree a diesel tahoe would be tight! I would sell my Yukon right now to get one with a diesel.
