Towing Question

The facts: 2001 2WD, 5.3L, GVWR 6800LBS, Tow/haul option, Tow Brakes, Tow Receiver.

okay so i am slightly concerned about loading up my 2k lb car hauler with my 4K lb road runner and hooking it to my tahoe. I have a payload of 6800lb's i believe so i know it would be close.. but doesnt my car trailers payload take up some of the weight from my race car? just want to know if im safe?

Just to clarify when you say Tow/Haul option, you're referring to the button on the end of the shifter, correct? Also, "tow brakes", are you referring to your trailer?

To preface this: I've got a 2005 2wd with the 5.3 and autoride (air shocks) suspension. I haul my 4000# plus Jeep on fairly regular occasion on a 2000# car hauler. It doesn't win any races, but it pulls well, stops well with the help of the trailer brakes. On flat to slight inclines (and not too much head wind), I can/got 12.5 mpg (just did this last weekend). Typically, I see fuel mileage between 10.5 to 11.

If you don't have the autoride on yours, I would advise a weight distribution hitch/receiver set up. Depending on the length of your trailer, it can get a little squirley as the tongue weight increases. That said, I would suggest no less than an 18' trailer for exactly that reason. It's difficult to get the load balanced with any trailer shorter than that. If you're already stuck with something less than 18', again... autoride or the weight dist. hitch set up. It makes a huge difference. If your trailer has brakes and you don't already have a brake controller, get one.

As side from that, you shouldn't have any trouble hauling your car.
