I took my truck to the muffler shop the other day to have them look at bending me up some larger pipes that go from the header to the cats.. the muffler man said that he didnt think this would help me so much. SO I poo-pooed that idea.
Anyway, while i was under the vehicle looking around, I see that my next victim is the muffler itself.
The muffler man says I can get some more sound out of the system if I take off the 2 into 1 Gibson that is on there now and replace it with something else.. He also said that it should be an easy job, since all the stuff is bolted together, not welded.
So my question to you guys is, The Gibson has a nice tone, but its not mean enough for me. I dont want to blast old ladies off the road or anything, but I want it to be a bit louder when I lay on it, and have a cool gurgle tone while im driving it.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts,
Pete

Ok, I read a lot on this forum and everyone has their own ideas on mufflers.
I cliked all the links and I think I like to flowmaster 44. Also (like you said) the flowmaster 50 series for the SUV was very nice.

Now, my problem is finding the corect muffler configuration. I need dual inlets and a single outlet. I think ( without getting under the truck) that they are 2.5" in and 3" out. I will confirm this NEXT TIME MY WIFE LETS ME PARK IN THE GARAGE!#@$! (ahem) sorry.

I dont see this configuration on the flowmaster website, or on summit. Unless I missed it, can anyone offer a suggestion? is there a top secret section somewhere?:cool2:

Im actually looking for a muffler too. I decided to get the Flowmaster 50 series SUV performance and they make it with 2.25'' dual inlets and 3'' single outlet. Im not sure if the stock outlet is 3'' but you could always make cuts and make it fit. Also you can find the muffler on autoanything.com for about $112 with free shipping. Im thinking of ordering it today but not sure if i should just get a new 3'' outlet pipe and dont really know where to get one besides a shop.

Flow American Thunder dual outlet, 3" pipe and dual stainless Magnaflow tips. This is my second set of Flows on the 96 hoe, and I love em!

I am a huge fan of the Flowmaster 40's...I really want to put two of them in my Yukon (exiting just before the wheel wells).

On a side note, I recently replace the whole exhaust in my car (headers back) with a flowmaster cat, custom 2 1/4 tubing and a Borla muffler. Boy this that thing nice!! I have not heard anything from their truck exhaust but if they are anything like the muffler in my car I might go with one of those in my truck.

If i remember correctly, the pipe going in is 2" and coming out is 3" - and if your going to do it yourself... you probably want to double check me ;) - but any *Good Muffler shop can make you a Y pipe in just a few mins for a single in single out muffler
