Okay the weirdest thing happened with my new 08 Hoe. Only 13 days after I got it:

I tried to remote start the truck and it wouldn't turn on. Then tried to turn the ignition and it wouldn't start either. Everything eletrical was working fine though. For some odd reason I just tried to release the parking brake which wasn't applied anyway. As I turned the ignition and had ahold of the brake release handle the truck turned on with a lag. As soon as I let the handle go all my gauges went down. (i.e. would show an empty tank of gas). My transmission display would not show what gear it was in. Plus I was getting maintenance msgs for the suspension and stability control. I turned off the truck again and this time applied the parking brake. It turned on with a lag (again) and as soon as I released the parking brake all the gauges and warning lights etc (again). I held the brake handle up so I could see what gear I was in. I put it in drive and there definetly was something going on as I kept getting a thump in the trans as I would go forward. So basically the truck wouldn't even turn on unless the parking brake was applied or I if I had the release handle in the "up" position.

Next morning I take it in. Turns out a wire that connects to the parking brake was shorted out because the harness for electrical wires was not located properly. Over the time I had the truck (13 days) the wire was beginning to short out and drain the battery. So they replaced the wire, relocated the harness, and put in a brand new battery.

Since I've been accustomed to driving a 02 Hoe for 5 years I didn't realize the change in the ignition turning on from one day to the next with my new truck. I honestly thought it had a small lil .5 sec lag to it. So with a happy ending, I notice my truck driving even smoother than before. I think the wire was messing with the stability control electricity. If anyone has a new truck with the computer acting crazy, chances are there's a bad wire somewhere causing everything else to screw up.

Maybe that is what is wrong with mine. I have had it for a total of 5 days and this morning it was dead. I havn't tried the e-brake but thanks for the tip. I hope they can find what is wrong with my truck.

Do you mean that the battery is completely dead? No lights, no power, nothing??

No, I have been getting it to start just like above. I pulled on the brake release and seems to turn slowly and then start. Not really happy about this. I am going to push for a new battery and harness.

Has to be the exact same thing then. Only the wire hasn't shorted out yet to make the comp go crazy. Call the guy that sold it to u first directly and he'll talk to the service dept himself. Everything will be done for you at no charge anyway. Just more convinient for him to give the heads up to service dept first.

Dead battery

I have owned my 08 Tahoe for 16 days & I went to start it this morning & it was totally dead. I put it on a charger re charged the battery & will see what it does tomorrow. If it has this problem again I will take it in to the dealer & have them check this problem you mentioned.
Thanks,
Brian

there's a TSB out on this subject....affects MANY different circuts...I just fixed one on Fri. there are several wire harnesses that run by the parking brake that rub through and ground out. Take it to your dlr and have them look up TSB # 07-08-49-018.

GMtech48,
Thanks a lot for the help.
After charging the battery last night to full charge, I went out this morning & it was totally dead. I will be taking to the dealer tomorrow.
Thanks,
Brian

I'm not suprised at this. All this new computer/memory stuff on these things is overwhelming. I just recommend get it fixed right away as soon as the problem occurs. They have to give you a new battery like they did for me. If you let the problem drag on you never know, an electrical wire that has to do with the brakes and the comp might not work right therefore your brakes maybe not working. Do it as soon as possible.

We had a problem with the tire pressure monitor, and the power seats/pedals.

It was all due to a short.

Dealer fixed it, no prob.

GMTech48,
What was the fix a new harness or just repairing the bare wires & moving the harness ?
Sun. morning when my Tahoe would not start I charged the battery again Sun. evening & I moved it in my driveway to take it to the dealer on Mon.
So Mon. morning it started just fine. I took it to the dealer gave them the TSB # & told them what was going on.
I got a POS Impala with broken AC on a 100 degree day as a loaner, never heard from the dealer called them late afternoon & they said they can't find anything & the battery tested fine.
I told them maybe something with the steering rubbing on the wires since my tires were not straight when I had the problems but when I moved the vehicle the next day no problems.
I just don't want the dealer to not fix it & this happen when I am not @ home & leave me stranded.
I think it needs to be fixed.
Thanks for any help

When I took it they "re-positioned" the harness. When all the wires around the parking brake rub up they do start to ground out as Gmtech said. But they should replace your battery for a new one. If it keeps dying it means that a wire is shorted because of the harness problem. They have to replace that wire and give you a new battery. Don't take their b.s. bro.

Thanks for the help.
They said they tried everything to replicate the dead battery but no luck so I am back were I started. All I can do now is call roadside assistance when it happens again & have it flatbeaded to the dealer for them to diagnose the problem. Before I charged the battery back.
I just hope it doesn't happen away from home. It sucks because now I will have to carry a jump battery pack with me just in case. I will probably swap the stock battery out for a yellow top Optima for peace of mind.
Thanks

When you start the engine, does it have a lag or does it sound right?
