I plan on purchasing a Tahoe in the next few weeks (between 2010-2012). I also plan on purchasing a 24 ft. boat that weighs approx. 6000 lbs (includes the trailer). I understand the towing capacity for the Tahoe is 8200 lbs, but would like opinions as to whether this would be safe/comfortable to tow this boat with a Tahoe. I'm also considering a truck or a suburban, but would rather get the Tahoe. Any insight is much appreciated. Thanks!

6000 lbs is fine. Your under 2000 lbs under what it is rated for. You will need to install a aftermarket trailer brake, towing that much though. The wires are under the dash

I regret not get a Suburban or XL. My extra long pickup doesn't notice boats but the Tahoe gets a bit of bunny hop with it's short wheelbase.

Towing questions

I recently bought a 2012 Tahoe, 5.3L with the Integrated Trailer Brake
Control System and Automatic Level Control. I am looking to tow a 20' enclosed trailer, 8' wide, rated at 4200 lbs and the load will a car rated @ 3465 lbs. I plan on towing this across 4 states and back and I realize this is close to the 8200 lb towing capacity of this truck, so this brings up many questions, but I'll ask what I think is the most important.

-Can the truck handle it or should I look at a flatbed trailer that would weigh less?

-Will the factory mirrors suffice or should I look at getting a set of extended mirrors?

-Is there anything else I should be inquiring for my safety and the safety of my truck and the load I'll be hauling?

I agree with Grebbler.

I had a 2002 Suburban to tow my 21' Cobra Performance Boat and I didn't even notice it was back there.

But with my 2007 Tahoe,,,,you can definitely feel more bounce with the shorter wheelbase.

Neither of my vehicles had the trailering brake system since my Extreme trailer has disc brakes.

I believe the torque output is the same on either vehicle.

You decide, but for towing, the longer wheelbase is much better, imo....

I appreciate the reply. I wanted the Suburban but unfortunately it didn'tfit in my townhouse garage, so the Tahoe had to work. I still need to tow but I've decided to go with a flatbed trailer vs the enclosed trailer. Hopefully, this will tow easier with less air drag and less weight. If it doesn't go well this year then next year I'll come up with another solution.

Good Luck,

either way, they're both really nice tow vehicles.

make sure that it has the hd trailering package if your planning to tow over 5500 lbs. w/o package the max is 5500.
