Hi, I'm new to this forum and have found it helpful. I have a question
about the rear brakes on the Tahoe (mine is a 2001)
Last brake replacement was about 70,000 km and I'm told I need new
rear brakes - this is at a dealer and last brakes were done at Midas.
Now here is something I have never heard before.
If they can't remove the rotors they have to pull the rear axle and its an
extra $500.
Can someone tell me if this is on the up and up????????
Just seems a bit much.
Regards,

Holy effing crap dude. Yeah, you need to find out exactly why they can't get the rotors off before you allow them to do anything. There is no reason to pull the entire axle. I would get a second opinion from a different dealership, and write GM a letter telling them about that. Sounds like BS to me.

I have rear disk brakes on my Yukon and the rotors came right off with removal of the calipers of course. easy job, done about 10 minutes each side (not including jacking up, wheel removal/installation).

I would get someone else to look at it or try yourself. Easy job.

Thanks for the replies

Told the dealer not to touch it. Took it to Midas.
They had it done in an hour and much less $$$
and had the pads changed to ceramic for a little more.
Again .... Thanks !!!!

Yep easier than setting brakes on my mountain bike.

Of course, I put new rotors on mine so took a few minutes longer.

Glad it worked out cheaper.

Rear brakes take me an hour and we charge $400 for powerslots with ceramic pads installed. Sorry to hear the stealers at it again, at least you were keen enough to spot the bs and get it done elsewhere. This is the reason I work on my own vehicles :nonod:
