i have a 08 tahoe with the 6.2 motor & 6 speed auto trans. my partner has an 08 with the 5.3 flexfuel with 4 speed auto. both vehicles have just over 10k miles. we just got back from a trip of over 2000 miles. following each other everywhere and filling up at the same station. on fairly level driving with only light hills driving 75 we both averaged between 17.5 & 18.2 but when the hills got bigger(tn. and ky) the mileage on the 6.2 only dropped to 16 to 17 but the 5.3 dropped to 14 to 15. in the 6.2 i ran mid grade fuel the whole time, in the 5.3 he tried all three and did just as good on low grade fuel. at every fill up i spent less on gas than he did every single time! even buying more expensive fuel.

Both 4 wheel drive trucks? That pisses me off getting better mpg with a bigger motor. Wish I had a 6speed trans.

Good info thanks for sharing.
I guess a lot can vary on trips depending on the temp, wind, and how you drive but I'm seeing better fuel mileage then that out of my 5.3. My buddy that has a 08 Tahoe with a 5.3 just came in town last week for a vist. It is about a 200 mile trip. He avg about 19.0 out of his. Both are 2 wheel drive models.

I just came back from a trip up to the Sawtooths in Idaho. I have a 2007 Z71 4x4 4.10 FD and on this trip the truck was loaded with two adults, one baby, camping gear, and kayak.

Started at ~2,500 feet and climbed to ~9,000 feet. The round trip mileage was 17.6 mpg. I thought that was not too bad considering the amount of stuff we had.

Hey all -- more thoughts on 6.2L / mileage

Hey everyone -- been a while since I've been around here... Nice to see this place growing!

Thought I'd share my experience from a trip I made yesterday in my '07 XL Denali (6.2L / 6 speed). I've got around 15K miles on her now, and she purred like a kitten for 450 miles yesterday through the VA / WV / MD / PA mountains and some nice flat stretches, using cruise control extensively. Average speed was probably about 60MPH (construction was a factor, and I usually drive about 70-75). Even though I had to mash on it a few times to pass some seriously retard-slow vehicles, I averaged 18.7 MPG. Pretty nice! I only use 93 octane fuel, and as you can see from my sig I also have an Edge Evolution (using the extreme tune) and a Volant intake.

I still love this thing, even tho she's pinching me in the pocket more so lately than 12/06 when I brought her home to mama. No complaints tho, happy enough with the mileage.

Later...
