I read somewhere that these typically leave a quart or so of oil in them.

Let me ask you......have you ever seen these at a jiffly lube type of place? You's think those folks would use them........

I agree, it seems to be a great idea, and I have some equipment thats a pain in the ass to change the oil. But when I change the oil......I want ALL the old stuff out!

I think the reason quick lube places don't use them is because it takes too long to extract the oil.
But, they work great on some vehicles. VW/Audi owners swear by them. I use one (a Moeller unit) on my Jetta TDI. It will actualy get more oil out compared to draining out of the drain plug.
From what I understand, they're not compatable with late model GM V8 engines for some reason. I suspect because you either can't get the hose all the way down the dipstick tube, or if you can, it doesn't reach the bottom of the oil pan.
