Steering wheel controls ?

Greetings All,

I am adding a peripheral steering wheel control interface to my 2003 Chevy Tahoe Z-71. On peripheral's website they say you have to connect a green wire to B-31 near the steering column. So is that connection point behind the metal steering wheel column. Should I just splice into that light green wire or is there a better way to connect it? Hopefully someone on this site has already encountered this situation. thanks in advance!

Once you have the dash bezel removed (the trim that goes around the ip, radio, hvac, etc), you can remove the steering column shroud and get to the harness from there. Locate the lt grn wire from the swc connector, strip back some of the insulation, and solder on the green wire from the Peripheral's green wire. Use heat shrink or electrical tape to insulate the splice. That's it. I install several of these a week, so if you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.

You can use a crimp connector, but I always highly recommend soldering due to much less electrical property losses and greater reliability, especially in a constant vibration scenario like a vehicle. I've seen it thousands of times where I am troubleshooting an aftermarket component or wiring and it ends up being a bad connection from t-taps, scotchlocks, and crimp-type connectors.
