Hi there,

My 96 with the 5.7 is now just exhibiting bad behaviour... It often stalls, but only when under way and most often at low RPM.

I believe the problem is electrical for two reasons...

At idle this AM, the engine died suddenly all lights on dash lite up...
Last night at idle, I turned the headlights on, instantly killing the engine.

Another odd things is it often bucks and sputters at low speed/rpm when in drive, this can be mitigated by slipping the car into N and revving the motor a bit...

I know trouble shooting is required but if someone has deep exp. with this motor and has an idea I'd much appreciate it!

Tx!

Hey gman1001,
I've got a 99 "Hoe" duing the same thing. I replaced the camshaft position sensor (in the distributor) and that helped alot. However, it occasionally still does the same thing. My next step is to replace the distributor. It has 150,000 miles on it.
If you find another fix for it please post it.... Thanks OLPIR8

Hey GMAN1001,
After replacing the camshaft position sensor in the distributor that helped alot. However, I still had a small sputter and stumble.

I pulled the distributor and the gears were a mess. I mean there were a couple that were actually shaved down to nothing. All gear edges were shaved into very sharp points and some had very jagged edges... Of course at that point I replaced the distributor.. All missing and sputtering and stumbling went away... Now all I have to do is get the Camshaft Retard Offset adjustment correct and the 1345 error codes will go away...

Not sure but I think I'm going to have to have the VCM "re-flashed" to get the computer to relearn everything... If I do that I might as well replace the crankshaft position sensor while I'm at it..
