I just got a 2001 tahoe, it has an automatic and the push button 2wd/4wd drive with the auto 4wd drive option. The truck has just under 150,000. Recently, when accelerating, it has started to squeak and squeal which then changes to a rattle and grind noise as soon as you back off of the accel. the noise stops. Sometimes it stops on its own and sometimes we have had to stop and shift through all the gear and then it seems to be fine. It only acts this way occasionally but seems like it might be happening more often. Someone once said that it was something to do with the 4wd, but I'm really not sure. Any ideas would be appreciated. Is this something that can be checked using a code reader? Thanks, I'm new to tahoe ownership

First off go to the 2001 section and post for better quicker responses. Secondly it would be nice to have the info of where/direction of the noise. May be related to belts/bearings at front of engine. Locate area and report back.

I can't seem to find a 2001 specific section, but anyway. The noise seems to be coming from the transmission area but I haven't heard it enough to be sure, it could also be from the front of the engine. I will continue to listen and try to get a better idea of where it is coming from.

Never mind, you are in correct section. I thought I saw 2002 to 2006 but is 2000 to 2006 and you are ok. The belts can make some very strange noises and so can the bearings that the pulleys are on.
