So Cal
Finally got my set of NGK Iridium plugs today, picked up the haynes repair manual and started reading.

I have an 01 tahoe LT with the 5.3 and heres what I've understood so far.

The OEM gap of the plugs is set at .060
I should use an anti seize lube on the threads
The spark plug wiring is ok, even after 100k unless I notice damage to them

Anyway, i think Boostaholic had mentioned that he had his plugs set at .035 for increased power. On the 04-06 the plug gap is .040. How short can i realistically gap my plugs if i want to see any type of gain without drastically shortening the life of the plugs? Also, does anyone have a recommended anti seize lube or can i basically use whatever I find at autozone.

Attention: Please disregard the Set Gap Per Vehicle Specification statement on the side of an ACDelco(R) Iridium Spark Plug Box. The statement will be removed from the boxes in the future.

Supercede:

This bulletin is being revised to bring attention to the Set Gap Per Vehicle Specification on the ACDelco(R) Iridium Spark Plug Boxes. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 03-06-04-060 (Section 06 - Engine/Propulsion System).

A new spark plug has been released for use in the above vehicles. The new spark plug has an Iridium tip instead of the current Platinum tip. Due to the different tip design, the gap of the spark plug has also changed.

The new spark plug, P/N 12571164 with AC Delco P/N 41-985, is gapped to 1.01 mm (0.040 in) when the spark plug is made.

The spark plug gap is set during manufacturing and should not be changed or damage to the spark plug may result. Any new spark plug found to not be properly gapped should not be used.

you fit under the new gapping required. as for the .35 for the .05 difference i dont see how you could see any increase on power on after putting it on a dino . Maybe just having a new plug puts the performance back ...I always put in a thin layer of anti sieze cause i always find it's easier the next time I change them.

also change the wires while your at it :)

haha, where did you unearth that bulletin?

I actually thought about wires, but after poking around on the website it seems people think that the stock set willl generallly hold out pretty well.

Cool bulletin, thanks gumby! Just curious though, why replace the wires unless something is wrong with them? There really isn't any point IMO...

But hey, to each thier own! :)

I Like to replace mine every 100k good or bad cause even a spark wire they do tend to wear out from constant exposure to heat and usage. but thats me :)
