That's what we've been doing And I'm just not getting the pedal I'd like. New Pads and shoes.Master was leaking under resevior,so it is new.Brake pedal seems to have a mind of it's own and also does that low speed antilock suffle from time to time. Are these 97 Tahoes prone to brake problems?Thanx

all of our brakes suck not just your year.check out the vaccum booster make sure there are no leaks that could be your problem too. i have the same issue with my 99 2door im investing in a rear disc conversion and a hydrobooster

Yup! First thing I learned about these trucks is the "curious" brakes they use! I'm going to do a complete flush on mine, adjust the rear drums (since I've read many times the self-adjusters don't work very well) and see if they get better. If not, then I'll replace the entire system, and maybe disable the ABS and see if that helps.

There is a recommended process for bleeding these, I'll nab that little bit of info and post back here...

From one of my Moparts buddys-

"If its a mig 90s GM the brakes are fun to bleed. You need a bottle with brake fluid in it and a clear hose.Attach the hose to the bleeder amd push the pedal with it open.Close the bleeder and wait 15 seconds then repeat then repeat then repeat. When no bubbles come out go to the next till you do all 4.Do not pump the brakes.Just open and push then close and wait 15 seconds.Thats GMs bleed sequence.Ive done a ton at work.It bleeds normal as rr lr rf lf.Takes parobally an hour to bleed them.Yes sometimes you have to activate the ABS pump with a scan tool. The master resivoirs are a sloppy fit on most.Rocky"

Thanx Rocky.I'll try that.It makes sense. These mid 90's tahoes all seem to have brake problems of some sort, and go thru pads really fast.

Truth be told, I'm getting used to the lousy brakes now! But that first ride home from the dealer was a bit scary! I drove there with 4 wheel discs and ABS and drove home with something akin to the Flintstones! LOL

If it EVER starts to warm up, I'll tackle mine and do what I mentioned above.

I had the ABS dissabled on my own 97 Tahoe and they were so sensitive it was unreal.always felt like front only were working.Another 1 of my customers goes thru pads like nothing and we use carbon ceramic pads from Napa.
