Sluggish Acceleration

Hello,

I have an '07 LT Tahoe with 85,000 miles. A few days ago, I noticed that the RPM gauge would go up to 3 or 4 before my truck would change into second gear while I'm driving. I remember it would always go up 2.5 RPMs before it would change gears. Not sure what it could be? Any ideas guys? There is obviously sluggish acceleration and the truck "jumps" when it's finally changes gear. :sad72:

Sounds like trans slippage. How long since last fluid and filter change? Trans fluid level? Burned smell? Color of trans fluid? Any CEL?

I'm also thinking its trans slippage. i just realized that it's OVERDUE for a fluid and filter change! The fuid level is in the crosshairs. It doesn't smell burned to me. Trans fluid color is brownish with some very fine metal shavings present.
What's CEL? would you recommend taking the truck to jiffy lube for a fluid and filter change or should I do a transmission flush?

CEL is "Check Engine Light." If the fluid is brown and not red like would be best then is time for a change. If you bought used and has never been done that you know of and you have never done then do the filter and a complete flush. The small amount of metal is likely normal, especially if never has been done, because when a trans is new the inner metal components have some sharp edges and as they wear the edges round off and most of the metal will trap in filter and that could be causing a fluid pickup problem causing slippage. Trans has a certain amount of slippage built in to the shifting of gears so it is not so harsh on the driver when it does shift. That is why some performance people will put a shift kit in for less slippage during hard performance acceleration. Do the fluid flush and filter and flush the trans cooler and report back.

there is potential for a restricted exhaust here also...not common but matches the symptoms...

just a word of caution....if the transmission is slipping you most likely notice a flare at the shift point and when accelerating the rpms would rise before you felt acceleration....also a transmission flush or service will not correct a concern...it is a maintenance service....not a repair....
