My son's truck had electrical problems due to a poor installation of accessory lighting. During an upgrade of the stereo there was a short and since that time the speedometer and tachometer plus fuel gauges do not work.

We have since checked and repaired all the obvious wiring problems and now have the instrument cluster removed but there is nothing obviously wrong. I am wondering if the under dash computer could be damaged although nothing else in the cabin seems to be a problem and the car is drivable except for a steering problem that we are also trying to fix.

What I am wondering is how to troubleshoot the cluster to see if it has gone bad first. I do have electronic bench repair equipment such as oscilloscope, adjustable powersupply and fancy desoldering and resoldering equipment plus microscope. Otherwise, I can just replace it and see but I was hoping to get more specific than that.

We just replaced the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator and PCM all of which at least got the truck running again after the fuel pump went down after our problems began.

Thanks,
Keith
