I have an 03 Tahoe LT and recently the seat heaters have stopped working. I hit the button for either the driver or passenger seat and it lights up for a second and then goes out. The heaters do not come on at all. Seems strange that both would go out at the same time. Any help?

Needs new seat elements

Took it to the dealer today and they said both driver and the passenger lower element need to be replaced. Seems strange to me that they would both fail at the same time. Anyone else think so? Anybody have experience changing the elements? How difficult of a task is it? Can anyone walk me through it. Love my seat heaters, but hate to pay dealers price to have them fixed.

Mine were replaced a few weeks after I got my Tahoe back in November 2004. Don't know what caused it or how much it cost though, it was paid for under warranty.

put seat at full up position, unplug seat heater element green connector, unclip seat cover and pull up on it gently not to tear it and get your hand inbeetween seat cover and cusshion and peel off old element be careful peeling it off it is taped to the cushion you can take a chunk out of your cushion if you are not careful, take new element and slide it under the cover put it in the correct position also feed the wire through the back to under the seat once in position remove the tape backing and then reassmble your seat.

Take it a little further

In reading some of the other posts, it seems that some owners have been able to operate the upper seat heaters even after the lower heater stps working. On mine, none of the elements will work. Dealer says both lower elements are bad, but if that is the case shouldn't the upper heaters still work? Anybody with experience that can help?

once the bottom element either opens or shorts the dsm shuts down the system.
