I am going to seafoam my girlfriends truck and have never done this before... I peaked around online and didnt find a whole lot of products and found even less information on how to...

First : what is the best product/brand to use?

second : any tips, tricks, do's/don'ts?

You have to try seafoam, I just tried it after reading a couple of seafoam threads here. I had troubles with my engine and did everything, but nothing really worked. I did seafoam, and was blown away! I was so satisfied that I did it in my 02 avalanche and 00 silverado, with, of course, fantastic results! I highly recommend it! check out this thread http://www.tahoeforum.com/showthread.php?t=6311 and this thread http://www.tahoeforum.com/showthread.php?t=3744 also be sure to use the deep creep with the seafoam treatment mentioned in one of the threads

Seafoaming..

I put a can of Seafoam in my gas tank, and did not really notice a difference.
It was about $6 a can at WalMart. Now, I only have 40K miles, and I use Berryman's Chemtool about every other tank, so it's probably pretty clean in there to begin with.

I'd get specifics if you're thinking about using it in the crankcase. (oil additive)
See if someone here has done it, and if they thought it was worth doing.

Good Luck.

You actually need to suck it up into the engine as mentioned in the threads, I doubt you will see a lot of difference by just putting it in the gas tank with that low of miles espically after using a cleaner every other tank. btw, I did not put it in my crankcase, but I believe some of the guys here have. (use 91 octane as reccomended, it really makes it fly!! lol)

I used Seafoam brand... didn't see much smoke... but noticed a little bit of performance increase. I did my truck too, and noticed a whole lot of nothing... I keep my stuff pretty clean, though.

It's pretty easy... just suck it into the brake booster vacuum line. I found that if you pull the whole thing out of the grommet, it's easier to use the L-coupler to suck it out. You have to keep it sucking air as well... don't just suck the whole thing in.... let it sit for 20 minutes or so... and start 'er up... and rev 'er up... I found on the Hoe, I could just put the vacuum hose next to the bottle... like... barely touching it... and it would suck it out of the bottle pretty good. When it got low enough that it wouldn't drown it, I just stuck the L-coupler into the bottle and let it suck it in slowly.

Yeah we put it in the break booster line as well. Good stuff! I actually have yet to use it on the Tahoe though, I imagine she is due!

I suggest you change your oil right after you seafoam. you dont want that stuff sitting in your engine.

Just follow the directions on the back of the can, and you are good to go. With you doing a full tuneup on your own as well, you should be in tip top shape!

Keep hearing that the Seafoam works, granted only if there is carbon and residual build-up to begin with. I guess you're supposed to introduce it into the intake vacuum as mentioned, and also churn it into the crank-case for a while before oil change.

To the guy using the Chemtool every other tank- not sure on this particular formula, but you want to be careful not to run additives too frequently or in too high of concentrations. They can dry out the soft parts in the injectors, causing leaks or premature failure. Even Techron added to fuel in too high of concentrations can do that.

I have used seafoam in many vehicles including my motorcycles. admittedly I have not used it in my tahoe yet.
2 bits of advice.
1) when sucking the seafoam through the vacuum line DO NOT let too much go into the engine at one time, you dont want the engine to cut off and you dont want to hydrolock the engine.
if you dont have a bunch of carbon buildup in your engine you probably wont notice a difference. adding to the gastank will pretty much do the same thing but will take longer maybe 2-3 tankfuls and will also clean your injectors
2) when adding it to the crankcase do it just before your oil change (less than 100 miles or so) it really lowers the viscosity of the oil.
not really a noticable performance gain but cleans out the gunk in the engine.

again I have not done this on the tahoe but have had good luck with it in other vehicle. proceed at your own risk

I Seafoamed my Ram and my 'Ho. Got some pretty good smoke out of it but don't know if I noticed much else, however, if it was smokin' I figure it was cleanin' crap out. Like they said, be careful not to suck up too much too fast, from what I understand you can FUBAR things big time. As far as the crankcase, you need to let it be in there for a little bit but yeah, not too long. It needs time to do it's job, if you add it and drain it you've wasted your time and money.

I usually split the can of seafoam into thirds. then it goes into the tank, the oil, and the pcv system and it works great!

so that i understand, you put 1/3 into the gas tank; 1/3 into the oil; and 1/3 through the vacuum lines?

Yup. We did that with my cousin's 5.0 mustang as well since he had failed emissions. We seafoamed it and nothing more and it actually passed the second time.

how long do you run this stuff throught the oil? Sounds like maybe i would run 1/3 through a full tank of gas with the stuff in the oil at the same time and by a full tank of ga change the oil?

There's really no need to change the oil right after.
