I have a 2000 Tahoe LS and just turned over 100,000. The past several weeks I have noticed a rubbing sound coming from under the vehicle. Usually more noticeable when the temperature is cold outside. The car sits outside in the elements. It is usually more noticeable when car first is started. It is intermittent. Seems to be worse when car first starts then becomes less as I drive it. Any suggestions? I have an appt for it to go to my mechanic on Thursday, but I'd like to have an idea of what I am dealing with. Thanks.

Metal noise? Or belt squeal? Does the noise change with speed? Does turning the wheel change the noise? Does the noise get louder when applying brakes? Is it just when you are standing still? Rubbing noise brings on a wide range of guesses! Hope this helps you some.

rubbing noise with 2000 Tahoe

The noise sounds like a rubbing noise or like something needs greased. When the car is sitting in park and I start the engine the noise is sporadic, not constant. It comes and goes. Cold temperature outside seems to make the noise happen more. Once I put the car in drive and go it still makes the noise, but not as intense or often. It sounds like it is coming from under the car inbetween the front door and back door of the car.
On warmer days it doesnt happen as much.

When I am driving I dont notice it doing it more when I turn the wheel or applying the brakes. I have to keep the radio off and open the windows as I drive, to hear the noise. I only have to drive several miles to work. When I get to work it is still usually doing the noise, but not as much or as noticeable.
