Rmoving lower front air dam

I'd like to remove to gain some clearance, but the manual makes it sound like performance would be altered. I can't see how dramatic of a change it would make and was wondering if anybody has left theirs off and noticed anything

When I bought my truck I noticed there was something different about the front end it took me awhile to figure out it was missing the front air dam I have put one on now but I haven't noticed any change in gas mileage I do know that American border patrol actually cut down the front bumper for Clearnace I don't think taking it off would be a big deal
