Hello , I'm new and own a 98 4d 4wd lt . It has about 150000 on it . I've had a lot of problems and replaced parts including a tranny ---which it has never been the same. I have some weird noises going on noone can figure out. to me it sounds like bearings ---hear it good when decelarating sounds like a train slowing down. I also hear this humming sometimes ---this truck used to be so quiet no I hear everything....Does anybody here have any ideas on these things. I am getting ready to use it to tow a 16 ft cargo trailer with my tools ---not too much weight but some know it alls say my rear end wont be able to take it ---the truck came with a hitch but no wiring so I'm not sure if its a heavy duty package ---how do you tell. If not will it be able to tow this trailer --It is a united 7 ft wide x 16 --will have a 750 # machine up close to the front and the rest of my tools --probablly under 1000 # everywhere else. any advice is appreciated.

i would get the truck on a hoist and get under it when its doin it and that way you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from ,could be transfercase,u joints, bad tranny

8.5 rears are common to pinion bearing failures. I would check out the rear axle really well.
