I think I originally posted this in the wrong sub-forum, so reposting here.

I have a 1999 Tahoe with an electronic transfer case. This vehicle recently spent some time with water in the interior. (I HATE floods) and now the transfer case is acting unusual.

First symptom, when started, the transfer case will randomly enter 4-hi or 4-low, and the on-dash controls are non functional.

Second symptom, when not operating correctly, the service 4wd idiot light is on.

If I disconnect the battery when the t-case is in 4-low, I have about a 50-50 chance that the transfer case will switch to either 4-hi or 2-hi after the battery is reconnected.(sometimes it stays in 4-low)

After a good bit of research, it is My understanding that the transfer case is controlled by an electric motor that I may be able to access.

I have disconnected and cleaned all electrical connectors to the transfer case and transmission.

I suspect that the control motor was inundated with water and possibly silt.

So, How do I locate this motor (diagrams or pictures, anyone?) and what tools will I need to remove it?

I can't answer your question specifically, but I'd go to the local library and get a manual for the truck. That's a place to start!

Second thing to do is change out all of your axle and TC fluids! Odds are real good there is water in there!

Sorry to hear of the flood!

The encoder motor is located near the rear of the transfer case. There is a 2 pin connector.

Manual is the first thing that I buy when the warranty expires.BUT, this transmission `is too complex for the scope of this manual'.

Yeah, first thing I did when the roads were clear was to take it to a lube shop that I trust.
