So I pulled a spark plug from my newly purchased truck. Plug wires say "delphi" on them and are still in good shape. Are they stock? The Plugs say AC Delco. Truck's got 176K though, so I doubt those are stock. Here's a pic:

Truck runs and idles great. What do you guys think? That's not wet oil on the plug, it was dry, just the glare from the camera.

.... I'm thinking of going with NGK this time.

What's the gap on those plugs? 1/8th of an inch? :D

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DAMN. :eek2:

Yeah, time to change those out man. Delphi and AC Delco are both OEM companies used by GM. If they have been replaced before, they were replaced with OEM stuff - always a good sign. But from the looks of those plugs, I really can't say. They *could* be the originals. You'll likely see a nice gain in mileage one you get fresh ones in.

NGK TR55's are a good choice if you don't want to spend $50 on the stock delco iridiums....but they do work very well, and last a good long time.

Obviously. :D

Thanks guys. Yeah, I am not sure if they are the originals or not either. I mean, if they were done at the 100k mark, they still have 76k on them - which is no walk in the park either.

Hmmm.. tough choice on the plugs. Not sure which I'm going to go with. I know Rock Auto has good prices on them, I've bought from them before for my BMW. Also, my cousin works at Advance Auto parts, so I'll see the cost with his discount. Would love to get these replaced sooner than later.

LOL.. Yeah Greb, when I pulled the plug I said WTF?! You could roast marshmallows off the size of that flame.

Dang it! It's cold and nasty out but you reminded me that I haven't checked mine either since I bought the truck. It runs fine but now I just gotta have a peek at them. :cuss:

These must be some well designed motors to run well on plugs looking like that. My older cars would be having kanipshins if they ran at all.

I bought my 'Ho last December with around 92K miles on it. I changed plugs and wires about four months later and saw an immediate increase in mpg. I used the NGK TR5 G power plats. You don't gap them, they come factory gapped and in fact they tell you not to gap them as you can damage the center electrode, it's about the size of the eye end of a needle. Good plug, reasonable price. I'd buy them again.

I used to change my plugs once a year. Maybe overkill, but I do 90% off my driving in stop & go traffic, and it's North Dallas... so it's a pretty quick pace.

What plugs & wires are all of you running? (all of you that have upgraded that is)

thanks

Along with the NGK plats I used Bosch wires. I've heard some people say Bosch isn't that great but this set has been okay, at least for the past 11 months, and they were a heckuva lot cheaper than the OEM's

I had planned to upgrade to thicker plug wires on my 94' CK1500 before I sold it, but I just could not justify the cost for a 13 year old pickup.

Now for the Hoe.... that's another story all together.

Well after I had decided to go with the NGK t55s. I go visit my cousin at Advance and he only has 2. So guess what? He has 38 AC Delco. At least he gave them to me for $5.99. The last plug on the pass side was kind of a PITA, but it went OK. Took it for a quick drive, and didn't notice much of a difference, but I definitely knew it was time to change them.

Hope they hold up as well as the last set. ;)

Well, BAD NEWS, about 8 miles into my drive to work this morning... at a stop light, the "service engine soon" light came on. AAAAAARRRGHHHHH, WTF???

This REALLY pisses me off. The truck was running great before, but I knew those plugs had to be changed. I had no problems installing the plugs and the wires are all intact. All I did was change the plugs and seafoam the 'hoe. I'm going to get the code read on my lunch hour, but I'm kinda ticked off right now. :mad2:

Now we all get to chime in with our guesses to what it is.

You mentioned Sea-Foam and the plugs looked nasty so I am going with an O2 sensor code. :D

Well I don't know WTH the code was. I ran seafoam through the intake again, then ran the last 1/3rd through the tank. About 3 miles into that drive, the service engine light came off! SF is the shizzy.
