Hey guys, I just bought a set of the xenon deopt HID's. I am looking to install them today but have ran into a problem. What would be the best power source for them and the easiest to hook up. I read the directions on their website and it seems simple for the the 07+ models but I have an 04. Is there a easy place under the hood to hook both the power wires to. Thanks.

I figured it out. I tied into the red box that says something like "battery" right next to the engine. Now my next question goes like this. Why is my denali running rough now. I disconnected the battery when I did the install but when backing out of the garage it almost died and it wont hold a steady idle. Is it because I unhooked the battery and something with the computer. When I had my grand prix, it would do similar things but then go back to normal after a short while. Is this something that will fix itself?

I've never heard of this before, but all I can think of is that your car battery is low on voltage, so yur HID's are drawing enough current to cause some problems to the system, try checking the voltage or getting a new battery!

It is only running rough at idle, it will bounce between 750 and 250rpm's and sometimes sputtering. Battery was replaced last year so it should still be good but I will check it anyway. Do you think it has anything to do with where I tied into for the power? I'll go take a pic

I couldn't get the back nut loose, so i sandwiched the two power wires between them.

im not sure if this is the same problem i had but a week ago i decided that my battery needed have a full recharge so i disconnected the both cables and let it charge for about 2-3hours. after connecting it again and starting it, the motor rev alittle high for a few secs and then the idle dropped way way down and sounded as if it was going to die. when driving it i could barely hear the flowmaster exhaust through the dual outs. i did some research on low idling and found that people had trouble with carbon being built up in the throttlebody and dirt on the maf sensor. i unhooked the intake tube from both ends and sure enough there was alot of carbon built up in the throttlebody and a dirty maf sensor. my guess is the computer system adjusted the engine to the steady building up of carbon and when since the battery was disconnected for so long all settings were reset and the carbon build up was now noticed.......whew!......sorry for the paragraph but my advice and opinion is to check and clean from the airbox to the throttlebody.......anyone,if im giving these parts the wrong name please correct me, im no where near being a mechanic and im just recalling what i believe to be correct.

The only thing that really makes me think it has to do with the HID's and not carbon build up is that it was running completely fine and as soon as I install these, it starts sputtering and actually died once just idling. Am I wrong in thinking that no way should an HID kit draw enough to make the vehicle run like crap?

sounds odd... your battery would have nothing to do with how the truck runs (unless i am mistaken) the problem could be from your alternator but those symtoms still dont seem like a bad alternator because from my experince, when they go... they go... they dont sputter out and die effecting your vehicles ride... now IF it was your alternator i guess i could see the HIDs drawing to much power and the alternator cant produce enough power to run your truck...

here is a thought though... if you think the HIDs are causeing the problem... unhook the HIDs and see if the problem is fixed... if so, probably alternator not producing enough power

What do you think the best way to unhook the HID's would be? Just unhook the two power wires I pictured above?

you dont need to take them out or anything, just unhook them from your power source, if the only place they are hooked in is at that power supply than unhook them and see what happens. If the truck runs fine again my guess would be that the HIDs are drawing a ton of amps and the alternator cant hang. This may be due to bad HIDs or possibly even a grounding problem... of course i am not 100% sure what that battery box is used for either, i never messed with mine.

I just went out and fired it up, idled perfectly. No problems, turned the lights on and off - no difference in rpm's. I think it might have just been a computer issue from when I disconnected the battery (maybe I am entirely wrong). It used to happen to my grand prix but only just for a minute or two and then go back to normal.

I will be going for dinner in an hour or so, so we shall see how it decides to run then.

defently dont put it out of mind just yet.... car problems dont tend to "fix" themselvs even though symptoms can go away... just keep your ears and eyes open... im sure its nothing major though... glas shes running to par again

I will double check my connections. Now that I think of it, one of the ground wires might have an iffy connection. I figured all was good because the lights work fine, but since you mentioned it i will double check tomorrow.

Today I pulled into a parking garage, auto headlights came on, but only one came on. Thanks for the tip regarding the ground. When I got home, I put it in a better place and now they both work. Truck is running good.

Till the next time I screw something up - thanks
