Hello. Just found and joined the forum. Hope someone can shed some light on a problem I just encountered. The plastic control gear in the module of my power lift gate has stripped when I inadvertently tried to open it with a small film of ice on the vehicle. Gear cannot be replaced separately from module. Retail for module is over $800, GMPartsdirect.com is just over $500.00. My dealers first reaction is it is not covered under warranty. My understanding is the gate is sensored to detect resistance and stop to avoid damage to gate and/or injury to person. In this situation, it didn't. Vehicle has less than 29,000 miles and this should be covered under warranty. I am pursuing with Dealer again. Anyone have similar experience or advice? Thanks.

That should absolutly be covered by bumper to bumper warranty regardless of how it broke ,after all it is between the bumpers last time I checked .Things not covered are wearable items and that is not wearable.

Great News. After waiting most of the day to hear from the dealer, they decided to cover the problem under warranty. Only problem now is the part had to be located in Canada and not sure when it will be in. Still happy to hear they are making good on it. Thanks for your comments. :gy:

Sorry to hear it broke so easily, and it cost so much to fix. Great to hear that it is being fixed under warranty.

It seems to me that they must have some way to sense the load on the motor, and if it is too great to stop trying...otherwise it would eventually happen to most people for some reason or another. I'd ask them if there is such detection in place and if so, have them check that out too, or you'll be back next time you get freezing rain...
