One of those weeks :mad2:
I took my 2001 Yukon in for a rebuilt EBCM due to an ABS problem. The work was completed however the shop can't seem to re-start the vehicle. Yes..it thinks it has been stolen. It's quite understandable to me that due to the battery being disconnected for a length of time and that the EBCM was removed from the Class 2 serial data circuit the "security" system has prevented a re-start shuting down the fuel injector/log.
The real problem is that my passlock ll (if that's what I have) will not re-learn the code after the many correct trys. The shop states he is not getting any DTCs in the system....and that the "security" light is NOT flashing while re-learning. Apperently..the passkey lll dosen't flash (just stays lite for 10 min)

THIS IS WHERE I NEED YOUR HELP.

I've been all over the web and found this "attachment" viewing GMs keys. My key is the one on the bottom right which states it's a PASSKEY lll! Passkey lll has a tad bit of a differance in the re-learn steps to get the code re-programed for correct re-start. Can anyone confirm there 2001 key (if it looks like mine). BTW, a lot of the GM information is a tad bit confusing! IE..They state that Passkey lll started in 97 and was widely used by 2000, however it also states that passlock started in 95 and was standard on 98 and up trucks and SUVs. To ID the key system it also says that if I have a "SECURITY" light, then it's a passlock system..Somethings wrong somewhere!

So please..does your 2001 yukon key look like mine? OR...could the attachment be wrong and the bottom right key should say passlock ll, NOT Passkey lll

Thanks guys/gals

Have you tried relearning the passlock system? Put the key in the run position and leave on for at least 10 mins then try to crank it.
BTW, our trucks use the PLII system.

Thanks for your reply....Oh yah a few times. Shop also tried 3 cycles a few times. That's why I'm confused about my key. Passlock and Passkey have a different re-learn sequence to restart. I still think the attachment of the shown key I have is a typo mistake and is not a passkey lll, but thought I would ask!
Tomorrow I will ask the shop if the "SECURITY" light blinks or is on steady during the re-learn cycle. I found out that if it's on steady...it could be an open class 2 data link..(something not connected correctly "like a connector" in the VTD system). If it's flashing during a re-learn, I think it's called "tamper mode) which means the systems OK....he's just screwing up the cycle sequince and not getting it right 3 times in a row...I think:crazy:

Anyways....So what your key look like? Look like mine but a passlock ll?

"After" the 10 mins...just crank it from the on position..or turn off 5 sec then crank it?

Figured out!!

OK, I guess getting a rebuilt EBCM wasn't thee best idea. There was a short within (this rebuilt unit) stoping the communication in the security system.

Alot of GM Referances don't mention the EBCM being part of the "Passlock" communication system...Yes if it's pulled out/disconnected it will be by-passed and you can re-learn the password....Oh boy, such BS
