I had asked this question in someone else's thread, but I think it probably got lost in the shuffle. :)
I have an old set of chrome wheels. They've got some rust on them but they look pretty good. I'm wondering if there's a way to paint them black? Would I just need to prep the surface really well and then use a bunch of spray-can black and several cans of clear-coat?
I read in the other thread that people paint their wheels and they have good results, but none of them mentioned whether or not they have chrome wheels.
Any info on this would be appreciated.

I already called around to see if anyone does it and no one in my area does. We live in a town of about 16,000 so we don't have many places to choose from. I would have to go about 150 miles to get to a place that'll do it. :(

what u can do is sand the rims a little like rough them up then get some primer in a spray can like a auto primer or even better self etching primer 1 or 2 coats then get some rustoleum flat black and coat the rims mite take 2 coats then let dry, that's what i did to a set of rims and it turned out great! they didnt scratch or anything, and if they do just repaint the scratched part! LOL its a cheap way to paint them but it works, i guess u can clear it if u want but i never did... idk good luck its worth a shot if u say the rims are kinda messed up anyway...

OK. thanks! Did you take the tires off of them first? That's probably a dumb question, but I honestly don't know if I need to or not. :)
I just thought the clear would be good to add an extra layer of chip-protection.
