Hello everyone This is Ron with a friend 1999 2door Tahoe

truck feels like it have no power till it reaches a certain speed (more or less). got an error code and same one with a Pd next to it.. (generic code reader) I do have an elm 27 something to my laptop and get the same thing with a lil more info. Then we also notice that the gas needle always bounce when we turn the ignition way past F and around the 6oclock postion then bounce back to the fuel level and flutter while running. I use the search in this forum and saw that it could be ground issues, So were going to look for it doing day light. The main Bs were dealing with is the check engine light we cant get it to pass smog causes of it.
Things my friend did ... tranny been rebuild by a shop according to them the shift solenoid been replaced but not sure if both of them were. I whould assume that both were replace at first but then the secound time just SS B ...according to some places the Comp will go into limp mode and keep the tranny in 2 gear...or is it 3rd gear ? according to a website they work in on and off mode (0 1)
(A) (B)
off off gear 1
on Off gear 2
Off on gear 3
on on gear 4

I am going off memeorie may not be right but that the idea.
Other thing we did was replace the computer refirb and it was flash befor shiping to us...and same thing happens same error codes and feels like it lost power...He went ahead and did that didnt even know he did -_-

I try manualy shifting and I have to try again with a lil higher RPM was only going 30 but tommrow we will try it...question I have is what the max speed per gear ? I notice on a 4runner when I man shift and rev the engine to high the car overide the man selection and shifted up. Will the tahoe do the same to prevent the engine from red lining ?

things were going to try next is get the haynes manual and trace the wires from the comp to the solenoid then base on that we will take the pan off tranny and look at the soleniods ... I read from this forums that it may be clog or something... SO were going to look for sighns like that and wireing harness and stuff. were also looking for any shorts...

Ok think that all the info need more questions or Ideas and solutions I will be happy to answer or take :D
Thank you for your time take care.

Ps me and my friends knows "what" were doing with cars we had replace engines and rebuild them and fix cars from top to bottom...AUtotranny hadent been an issues till now and never really delt with them mainly delt with manual...oh and I know alot about computers and eletricals

Ok, the solenoids in the tranny themselves are electronic, but if they go bad they can and will interrupt the proper flow of fluid through the valve body. There are more than one solenoid, but in my opinion, if you are going to drop the pan to check them out, I would just order a new solenoid kit to install so that it is done when you take it apart. This is fairly inexpensive to do.

I would:

A: replace all the solenoids
B: replace the tranny filter
C: once done clear the codes and see if they return at all.

Hope this helps a little.

Ty for your response I do agree do them all at once vs one at a time. beside cheaper when it comes in pair online none of that china crap either -__-

be for we replace them our self the tranny still under the 6months warenty, I am going to ask them if they had replace all the SS ... another thing I want to mention ...according to the chilton on the wireing diagrams it shows there are 5 solenoid but I did notice it said TYPICAL V8 ... what I am asking are there more then 2 selenoid and if so should I have them replace for good measures ?
Actually I am going to make them replace all the solenoid and I am going to watch them causes this is BS it been taken to that shop twice and they keep it for WEEKS saying oh they are more important customers....they are lucky it wasnt my truck causes that would not fly with me ... :superhack:

I also check all the wiring the best I could found no damaged I followed the group of wires leading from the tranny and SS to the PCM and the wiring from HOT to the tranny.

so you know I can manualy shift between 2 and 3rd gears no first no 4th (auto D ) when it in auto it only stays in 3rds and no kickdown when flooring... just thought i mention that.

Tommrow were gonna have a talk with them and this time I am going to be there to make sure they are not taking advantaged of my friend...he very shy and quite...I will be back with more info later

Now for the gas gauge the only grounds we found was on the frame NEXT to the gas tank that leads to the sensor and fuel pump...we clean up and it didnt solved the issues..it NOT that bad now but still buzz ....

Ty for your time with my ranting.

Yes, there are more than one solenoid, you have a reverse solenoid, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 & 4-5 solenoids. I would definitely make them replace them all, even under warranty, there is no sense having it taken apart more than once to figure out if the solenoids are bad.

As for the gas gauge, I think that would be either the stepper motor in the instrument cluster OR a bad fuel level sending unit. Both are pretty common on the Chevies...
