I have a 1997 4wd 2dr Tahoe that makes a terrible noise and vibration only when I am coming out of overdrive adding light acceleration and not heavy acceleration. About 40 or 45 mph. It sounds like the noise you hear when you run over the strips on the interstate. A short and brief rumble strip sound. Fluid and filter has been changed as well as a brand new speed sensor. Could this possibly be a torque convertor? Has anyone else experienced this?

Lock-up torque converters can do this chatter thing during coupling/uncoupling, usually around 40-45 mph at mild throttle. One obvious sign is discoloration and burnt smell of the tranny fluid. Cruising thru hilly country, where the torque converter locks/unlocks a lot (feels like it upshifts/downshifts), overheats them and wears them out.
