i have read the shock diy thread and I think its great i just got my first tahoe and the thing feels like its in a wind storm when going over bumps or at high speeds at times. I was thinking of replacing the back springs and all four shocks. I was just wondering what tools i will need for this and if its really as simple as jack it up pull shocks and springs out and replace. any info will be appreciated

Since your most likely going to be doing it on the floor you want to take all 4 tires off and put jack stands on the frame if you don't have 4 jack stands just do one end at a time when doing the rear once you have the jack stands in place meaning on the frame put the jack on the rear diff to where its putting slight lift on the vehicle remove both rear shocks then lower the jack slowly to where you see the springs fully extended there you can go ahead and replace the rear springs once the springs are in place raise the jack as needed to line up the rear shocks and install nuts and bolts.. for the front again put jack stands in place then put the jack under the ball joint of the lower control arm with a slight raise on the lower contrl arm then replace front shock you would ony be able to do one side at a time on the front so you can position the jack under each lower control arm ball joint..

Sweet... yea you know forgot to mention the part that chances are that top nut is a little tricky the top part of the shock will spin when trying to remove it next time you can get a pair of vise grips to hold it the take the nut off while someone holds on t o the vise grips so it doesn't spin

yeah they were in such bad shape we just cut the bolts right off with a grinder. took 4 hours total for the front half still waiting to do the rear shocks.
