Test drove a 2008 Tahoe 5.3L today and noticed wide flucuations on the oil pressure gauge from 20-25 at stop light/idle to 60 or so freeway accelleartion. Is this typical or what is is the issue?

Thanks for the help!

Thanks. If that is the problem what will it cost for the dealer to replace it?

It depends on the dealer really, some area reasonable and some inflate their prices beyond what it even worth thinking about. But, replacing the sending unit shouldn't be too hard for you. Are you mechanically inclined at all?

:welcome:.... In my opinion, I would not be to concerned. You could check the gauge on another similar vehicle and get a different reading. The engine temp/type of oil plays a big part in it. 5W 30W oil is not as thick when warm as a 30W oil would be, therefore giving a different reading. Your reading are what I would call in a safe range, very close to my 5.7 with 175k miles. JMHO, good luck to you.
