hello guys, hope someone will give me some good info, I cleaned the pan area, thinking I might have a rear main leaking, but after doing so, oil appears to be where pan meets block,(mostly on pass side) I pulled the plug on bell housing no oil. I need spec's and squence on bolts, I understand very important. Oem the best gasket or will auto store part due? Anything else I should be looking for? 03 2wd 5.3 Tahoe. Thx all.

Get FELPRO gasket set only and follow instructions. Make sure all sealing surfaces are very very clean before reassembly.

The torque spec will be with the oil pan gasket set from Felpro. The end gap check is to make sure the back lip of pan is not pushing up on the bottom of the rear main seal assembly and causing the seal to move up on the back of crank.

Sorry for the late response. I did send you a PM back. I work at my computer Tues thru Sat and can answer back pretty quick but when football is on on Sunday then I am away from computer and on Monday I chase women.

Anyways, I never used torque spec on oil pan gaskets. I am sure you can google the spec. I just snugged, with a 1/4" drive ratchet and socket by hand-no air tools, in a random back and forth pattern gradually moving from front/back to the center but always switching sides between each tighten. Then, using the same 1/4", I did a final tighten and watched with a good drop light for the gasket to start to "squish" out from it's form and that was where I stopped. The biggest key is the clean dry sealing surfaces before reassembly. Even blow out the threads before installing any bolts so whatever is in there does not squish out when tightening the bolts as described before. A thin film of quality silicone sealer I what I use on each side of the gasket but I bet there is some directions from FELPRO about this and if so then follow those directions. You can go ahead and refill the oil and I would change the oil filter and fill it with oil before spinning on and make sure you lube the filter seal with oil. Wait about 1-2 hours and then start engine and monitor for leaks and top off oil as needed.
