I have a 2005 Denali XL and there is a small oil leak coming from the plug on the oil cooler (I think the o-ring needs replaced). It is located just above the oil filter. I have a couple questions. Can I loosen the plug with a wrench and get it all the way out with my fingers without causing problems with the check valve located inside the unit or getting hung up on the block that is 1" away? Does anyone know what size the o-ring is? I spoke to the dealer and they say the entire unit is unservicable and I would have to replace the entire thing from the engine block to the radiator. I beleive if there are no other issues I am unware of I should just be able to replace the o-ring. Any help would be appreciated.

Others may chime in before I can check my FSM at home but I wouldnt see an issue if the unit looks serviceable and the O-Ring can be replaced. Ill check for you though once I get home later tonight.

Welcome to the neighborhood.

If I am not mistaken that "fitting" right there can be ordered to replace it completely. Not the entire oil cooler itself, but you should be able to order JUST the fitting/plug which should come with a new o-ring. I am unsure about the size of the o-ring, but it is serviceable. You should also not have to worry about it hitting the block or messing with the check valve inside the cooler.

I am also not sure what the part # would be either, but you should be able to have the dealership parts department pull up the break down of the parts in on and around the oil cooler and allow you to pinpoint the part you need.

Thanks for your help. I contacted 2 dealer service departments and they assured me I could not buy just the plug. So, I removed the plug and replaced the o-ring with a 2-117 O-Ring. Seems to have fixed the problem.

Again, thanks for the help.

Glad you fixed the issue...More times than not, dealerships will try and sell you on the entire unit or say its not serviceable just to get you in the door then upsell you on other things you may not need.
