Hey guys, so ive been thinking and thinking all about my obd1 on my 95 truck.. Im going to hook it up to my laptop and start to get some readings off the motor and computer. But i got to buy one of these "OBD1 interface cables", it goes from the plug under your dash to the laptop usb port. i downloaded the software today for it and itll tell me a bunch of stuff once i get this cord plugged in.. Things like all my sensor readings, error codes, rpms, timing junk, and all my temps going through my truck.. You can either buy or make the cable, but anyone ever do this before>? its not so much prgramming the truck to anything, but just seeing inside of the heart.. lol.. :ack:

Making the cable can't be hard. USB only uses 4 (5?)wires and from looking at the OBD plug, there can't be much to it. If there's a diagram out there, it should really be pretty basic.

ewww... That would complicate it a bit. If you can solder and you can get all the parts, still shouldn't be too hard. Send me the diagram if you want. I'd be interested in it too.

A word of caution if this is "editing" software. You can turn your Ho into a 5,000 pound paper weight by changing things you don't understand.

Get yourself a "file dump" of a OBD1 and study all of the catagories to get an idea. Many of the tables are backwards from what you would think. Like the Force Motor tables.

It takes a while to get a handle on it. Good luck...............

Yes the USB is a 4 wire interface and it will take some circuitry to connect to the OBD. I guess it'll come down to what your time is worth to put one together versus buying one.

I use Autotap to monitor my engine and clear fault codes and it works well. I have a laptop on the console and I Alt-tab between GPS, Autotap and my backup camera.
