I have a 97 Tahoe 2dr 2wd, the a/c didn`t work when purchased. Last year I took it into the dealer to get it evacuated and recharged, after I replaced the compressor ( heard bearing making noises ), accumulator ( parts store wouldn`t guarantee compressor unless purchased accumulator and orfice tube ), orfice tube. The aftermarket compressor came without some sensor on the lower part of the compressor on the backside. I just jumped that connector. A/C worked fine. Nice and cold, very happy! This year comes around and go to turn on and no cold air. A/C button light turns on, turn temp switch to hot and hot air comes out, turn back to cold and warm air comes out. Compressor not turning on. Checked for leaks, everything dry, no visual leaks. Checked wire I jumped, still ok. Jumped connector to accumulator, compressor still not turning on. I add 2 bottles of freon and compressor turns on and off, still no cold air. 2nd bottle did not take well. Now I think it`s over charged. Checked power with test light to compressor connector and light turns on only when compressor is engaged, is this normal ? Any advise besides taking it to a shop.

Sounds like a charge issue, find someone with a set of guages that knows how to use them and hook it up. Also I would undo your bypass before you blow something up.
