Hello:
My '99 Tahoe is my first 4WD vehicle of any description, so I'm kind of clueless about some stuff - please bear with me.
I'm having trouble with starting, and it seems to be somehow related to a recent replacement of the 4WD actuator motor (before I bought the car). The car often starts just fine, and the battery (new) has been checked to make sure it's not involved. This is an automatic, not a manual.
Symptoms are: Car will not crank over after sitting overnight. All lights, etc, good. If I turn the key to "ON" and shift through all the gears, then I will hear the 4WD motor and diodes will start blinking on the 4WD selector switch on the dash. Pressing 2HI and then 4Hi will get her to start. In addition, the selector switch acts funny; when I am driving in 4HI, the diode will go out, and no amount of pressing the switch will persuade it to come back on.
I am not getting the dreaded "Service 4WD" light, and the charge rate is fine.
So, I am thinking that something with the 4WD actuator or switch is at issue here, but I'm too new to all this to know and don't want to throw parts at the problem.
Can anyone help? Thanks, and I can see I'll enjoy being part of this forum.
