I just got my first 96 Tahoe sport. I have wanted one for quite some time but they are not easy to find.

Today I found a little mud hole and after testing the 4wd on road I thought it worked as the light engaged with the clunk and it felt as if it was pulling. Once into the mud the 4wd wasnt working. Light engaged, I got out and had a friend hit the gas as I was stuck in a small hole. I could see the front driveshaft spinning, heard 4wd engage in both high and low but no movement from the tires?

Is the tranfer case toast? I am new to 4wd, but not to cars.. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The front drive shaft turning is good, but the front wheels are engaged electrically with a device on the passenger side of the differential housing. It takes the place of the outboard hubs that the previous models had. They were vacuum in the older models, but yours should be electric. It it isn't it can be changed over.
