I am new to the forum and I have to say, what a great site and being on my second tahoe, I wish I knew about it earlier. I have a 99 4 door 4wd with 104K. Sometimes when I put it into drive or reverse from park after just starting my truck, it "kicks" into gear, but only when I first start my truck. I at first thought it was a tranny problem, but it shifts fine up and down at all speeds. So now I am thinking that it is a u-joint problem. Also, when leaving a light and you give it a little to much gas, you can feel a small little "bump" I would call it when you first take off. Am I right in assuming that it is a u-joint or something worse like a ring and pinion? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does the bump make a noise? Mine does. I am actually getting U-joints replaced this weekend. I will post back.

I wont say that it makes a noise, but it is like a hard shift right when you hit the gas.

that is a common problem with these trucks. seems it can be a ew things, either a bad ujoint, or a dry rear driveshaft spline that needs to be greased. have that done when u joints are replaced.

"U" joints. Also part of it is just the way it is. The colder weather makes it more drastic. With a brand new engine and trans it still happens to me.

It is a northern truck, so if figured that is probably the culprit. I will get them replaced after Thanksgiving.

Heard same type of noise from my '96 2-door tahoe about a year ago-could kind of feel/hear noise while driving-- Replaced my rear u-joints-things were wasted--
