Like the thread title says, im new to the forum and im looking into buying either a Tahoe or Yukon (maybe denali?). New job = New truck

Im looking at something in the 2005-2007 range to save a bit of money.

What are some of the major differences between the Yukon and Tahoe? I need something with a few luxuries, but also something relatively bad-ass that i can take into the field with me (work in the oil patch - in the field once every month or two). Also I wouldnt mind sprucing it up with some subtle aftermarket parts(mostly cosmetic), what kind of aftermarket support does each model have?

And finally ... What is a decent price range to shoot for?

Thanks!

I'd have to recommend the 07+ for how well it was re-engineered, and you could get one new OR used for a steal right now. Brand new highly optioned in the low 40s high 30s if you're shrewd, I think. As far as top of the line, it's Denali or LTZ, and I'd have to say the Denali gets more options and attention from the factory, but an LTZ is beautiful and adequate and can also have the 6.2L motor available (not sure about with 4WD yet). As for style between the two, it is really in the eye of the beholder. To me a Tahoe looks "smarter", but to some a Yukon looks way smoother. You will have to look at both of them and see which one is for you. Notice the headlights, tails, D-pillars (Yukon is black, Tahoe is body color), trim moulding, etc. Interior differences I'm not too familiar with but they just have their own personalities. To one guy a GMC is an overpriced Chevy, to another it is more refined- it may well be both. Also if you're interested in a front drive axle, the LTZ is 4X4, and the Denali is AWD. So one puts out when it hits rough paths, and the other puts out on day to day pavement. Also there's a lot of aftermarket items available- grills, wheels, electronic interfaces, trim, performance, and a lot more coming I'm sure. So just take a close look at the different models and see what is for you, and come back and post some pics when you got it!

EDIT* Just so you can see how dependent it really is upon taste, I ordered a Z71 with everything available, stickered just about same as some LTZs. I could've gotten LTZ, Denali, or any other SUV I wanted, but this is what set it off to me. So just study all the variations.

Get a brochure for both of them and that'll help point out the differences also. The Yukon Denali has a lot more chrome trim which some like and some don't. Just depends on one's own tastes.

Like I said in another thread, a local dealer has a new '08 LTZ w/ MSRP of $54K on sale for $38K.

BTW, welcome to the Tahoe Forum.

Well said Black Dog!

Mmm...feeling a Tahoe in your future. I personally like the 4x4 Tahoe advantage over the AWD Denali. I'm thinking less wear and tear and better MPG.

As for aftermarket, it's personal preference. A lot of us change lighting to LED and HID, some are doing a CIA and Cat Back, others are either lifting or lowering. I'm looking to lower mine as it's only 2wd. Don't have the heart to wheel a 40K machine when I have two other toys to get dirty in.

Welcome to the forums!

Since you are going to go offroad, check into the 2007 Tahoe Z71 package. I am a little biased ;). There is a lot of aftermaket stuff...
