Hello all,
I recently purchased a 2009 LS that the dealership had installed a Zone 6 inch lift on it. Unfortunately, is has some flaws that I am attempting to fix. The hard part is there is very little solid information regarding these issues due to the fact the the vehicle has been modified from its OEM state. It seems as though the only answers can be found by trial and error in locating and treating the symptoms. This can be frustrating at times due to either the lack of time or resources to throw at the problems. I have turned to looking at similar issues that others have posted about. Sometimes this helps, if nothing else gives me other aspects to consider. The top three issues are a creaking noise from the front end. A clunking in the rear when driving over bumps and wash boarded roads, and my speedometer being off do to the size of the tires.
The first issue has bother me since I first acquired the vehicle. To took it back to the shop that installed the lift twice with no avail as to what is causing the creaking sound. However, had no luck in this process. I did get them to position the sway bar end links correctly. (That really help handling.) After going through the install manual and replacing the end link bushings, and hours of research I have gain no insight as to the nature of this issue. The only thing I cannot attempt is a TSB on a condition that closely resembles my issue that requires one to drill out the hole in the jounce bumper on the front struts. How this is suppose to help I am not really sure.
The next issue that I have recently noticed it a knock sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. it sounds like the spare is loose however this is not the case. I have gone though the parts on the rear suspension and nothing seems out of place or loose. The only thing research has uncovered is a possible issue with the slip yoke or the rear spring alignment both of which are technical means to repair. In this instance I believe that I will need to pray that I can a shop to locate and fix this issue.
The last issue about the speedometer reading correctly. The only means that I have uncovered about fixing this issue is to reprogram the ECM for the correct tire size. In this matter I have been told by a chevy dealer's shop manager that that the only solution to that on a GM vehicle is to purchase a aftermarket programer. I have yet to confirm that this is my only option due to the lack if information that I can find at this time.
