Was dark & pouring rain so doing more road test tomorrow but figured would see if anyone has dealt with this problem because I know something is going to need to be fixed.
2003 Tahoe LT (250k on 5.3\4x4\3:73) when driving in Ax4 rigs developed a slight vibration (can only be felt in pedals & steering wheel) & hum from front end. It starts @ about 25 mph & persists from then on. It doesn't get worse or better when vary speeds, pull or when give it power, it maintains the light hum & vib. Same growl\vib when in 4Hi now as well. It also feels like A4x might be kicking in more than it should. The problems dont feel left or right side based. It feels more all around, more center or = based.
Closest I've found with matching symptoms after going through forums I'm a part of was a clip in the differential that tends to break on these. Once clip breaks the Ax4 comes on when not needed or simply stays in 4x4. Read should put in Ax4 & see if it kicks on when starting from a turn as an indicator (idea being if jumps into 4x that's probably it).
The front diff is one of the few things on these rigs I've not worked on myself yet.
Thanks for input,
MnM
